I grew up in the Tzaneen, a tropical town in the Northern-part of South Africa, as the oldest of four kids. We spent our childhood either on the sports field, fishing with dad on the local dams or going for hikes in the indigenous forests. We often went to the Kruger National Park during the holidays where birdwatching and all things nature, became part of who I am.
My family moved to Kwa-Zulu Natal when I was a teenager. I was exposed to spending summer holidays snorkelling, camping and reading. I loved gymnastics and also played hockey for my school team.
After I graduated at Stellenbosch University with Botany and Microbiology as my majors, I got married and moved to Cape Town permanently. We have 3 fabulous kids.
Even though I’ve always loved nature, it felt like there was something missing. I worked at Edgars, a fashion retailer in South Africa, as a sales ladies in the fashion department and then at a trendy Boutique after that. When my second son was born, I went into teaching where I taught high school Science and Mathematics as a substitute teacher for 13 years.
With my husband’s encouragement, I then pursued my dream of studying Theology at the age of 41. I continued serving at our local church where I learned to hear the Lord’s voice, practiced spending time with Jesus and praying for the sick.
I love to encourage and equip people to become what God purposed for them to be and to inspire them to dream again.
In 2019 my family went through a dramatic trauma experience and again in 2021. Instead of taking time of to restore, I kept on running at full speed, trying to be mom, wife, friend and serving at the Church. I only realised I had severe burn-out, when my love tank was gone and I got a bad ‘tennis elbow’ so I could not use my right hand.
That’s when a friend of mine introduced me to Mimika. Going through the program I learnt how to slow down, set healthy boundaries and find my ‘happy’ again. This program has helped me to regain my confidence in being myself and in ministry, and I am actually getting things done. This process really works! I have been in ‘ momville’ for so long, I lost sight of who I really am and now I am feeling lively and full of energy again. I am no longer getting stuck in overthinking everything, as I have learned the tools of having a healthy and Christlike mindset.
